Job Description

PRIMARY DUTY:

Reviews and coordinates development plans and serves on a team to ensure that the City’s Comprehensive Plan and infrastructure master plans are current and coordinated. Requires a degree in specialized field of Engineering.

Job Duties

Reviews subdivision plats and plans for compliance with city, state, and federal requirements and regulations. Comments on design deficiencies and makes recommendations for design improvements.

Assists citizens, contractors, engineers, developers and others in interpreting and complying with relevant requirements and regulations.

Prepares reports and presentations to City Council, boards and commissions, and city administration.

S

Processes Community Facilities Contracts for public infrastructure installation by private developers.

S

Coordinates with Capital Improvement Project (CIP) Engineers to ensure coordination between new development and current or future CIP projects.

S

Coordinates reviews of flood studies and traffic reports with outside consultants.

M

Investigates drainage or traffic problems and recommends solutions.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.

• Four years of experience in the field of public works engineering.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Civil Engineer:

Registration as a licensed engineer in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a license within six months.

• Valid Class C Texas Driver License with a good driving record.

OR

Graduate Engineer:

Registration as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of Texas.

• Valid Class C Texas Driver License with a good driving record.

PREFERRED LICENSES AND EXPERIENCE:

Certified Floodplain Manager

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering related to the design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects.

• Knowledge of surveying principles and practices.

• Knowledge of the methods, equipment, and materials used in surface and underground construction and maintenance.

Skill in use of roadway, water, sewer, and drainage criteria.

• Skill in interpreting engineering specifications.

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and convey technical information in an easily understood manner.

• Ability to apply local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to development projects and the gas well industry.

Ability to organize and coordinate materials, information and resources associated with engineering projects.

• Ability to use independent judgment and make sound decisions.
