Qualifications/Duties:Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle is seeking a CST to work Full Time.Graduate of an accredited surgery technology program or Vocational Nurse Program.Required minimum experience: 1 year current operating room experience required, acute care setting preferred.Required license/certification: Current CST or LVN license required and successful completion of CPR within 30 days of hire.Required skills (if applicable): A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast paced environment.Duties:A. Assists in the Identification of ineffective and costly processes: - Judicious use of supplies, time and completion of charge sheets.(As applicable) - Active participation in helping unit meet key performance indicators. - Assumes responsibility for/ participates in projectsB. Utilizes evidence-based practice: - Practice reflects current methodology supported by current research and best practice(ie Clinical Practice Model Guidelines, AORN guidelines.) C. Participates in unit - based programs to monitor and continuously improve the quality of patient care. - Provides evidence of participation in performance improvement activities. In collaboration with the RN, assists with the nursing process which includes assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of all patients, including:a. Provides care according to standards of care. - Patient care follows plan of care per unit guidelines.b. Prioritizes care. - Priorities of care revised according to patient/family needs. - Cultural/religious beliefs are considered in all aspects of the delivery of care.c. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care. - Practice includes responsibility for participating in "procedural pause" - Works with other team members to resolve patient issues.d. Performs Technical procedures safely, proficiently and within the scope of practice. - No significant variance from expected practice occurs. - Performs accurate sharp, sponge and instrument counts at appropriate times with documentation. - Laboratory/pathology specimens labeled correctly on surgical field. - Applies and maintains asepsis in the OR suite. - Recognizes breaks in aseptic technique or sterilization process and takes measures to correct. - Verifies that necessary equipment and supplies are available for planned procedures. - Rooms are stocked, cleaned and ready for patients.e. Documents accurately, completely and legibly - Utilizes hospital - approved abbreviation list. - Documentation supports and meets regulatory requirements. - Safety checklists/quality controls completed as required.f. Takes action to reduce/eliminate patient risk. - Utilizes two patient identifiers. - Verifies correct sterilization method is utilized for specific instruments and equipment. - Performs procedure for time-out, including confirmation or correct patient, correct site and correct procedure, presence of implants and any special equipment. - Follows hand washing guidelinesg. Adapts care measures to reflect age specific and developmental considerations - Individualizes care based upon age specific needs for the listed age groups: 1. Pediatric 6 mo -12 yrs 2. Adolescent 13-18 yrs 3. Young Adults 19-39 yrs 4. Middle Adults 40-64 yrs 5. Older Adults 65-79 yrs 6.
