Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Functions as working Team Leader, responsible for assisting Coding Manager in the day-to-day assessment, monitoring, coordinating of the operational activities for the Coding & Abstracting area of the Health Information Management Department. Responsible for the oversight of staff; training and education; positive coaching; assists with quality and staff productivity monitoring; assessment and organization and monitoring of daily routine workloads including handling staff schedule changes ensuring no negative impact to workflow; answer coding and abstracting questions, acts as knowledge resource for coding/abstracting staff as well as other departments/offices within CCHCS as needed. Helps to develop and maintain associated policies and procedures, and reports for tracking/trending staff performance and other reports as required. Participates in problem resolution; troubleshoots and/or contacts Information Services support to report problems with hardware or software to expedite problem resolution. Maintains current and thorough knowledge and understanding of current coding schemes, regulatory rules, guidelines and updates as well as a thorough knowledge of current database operations, processes, problems and changes. Coordinates learning activities for college student clinical experiences. Promotes team work in the area and customer relationships through prompt and courteous service.QUALIFICATIONS: RHIA, RHIT required with CCS preferred, with three (3) years minimum, full-time current and continuous acute hospital inpatient coding, knowledge of MS-DRG and APRDRG/SOI prospective payment system and Present on Admission (POA). Observation and outpatient surgery coding experience with CPT-4 outpatient coding experience required. At least 1 year Supervisor/Team Lead experience preferred. Pediatric coding experience highly desired. Trained in ICD-10-CM/PCS required. Technically competent and fluent knowledge in navigation of electronic medical records applications, automated encoders and other software applications and hardware required for job role required. In depth knowledge and understanding of coding and abstracting of medical records, data analysis and reporting required. Experience using Microsoft Office Excel and Word highly desired. Ability to work well independently and productively with minimal guidance and without direct supervision. Must be highly detail oriented, ability to remain focused with good organization, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Goal oriented, flexible and energetic. Demonstrates superior coding skills and critical thinking skills. Ability to solve problems appropriately using job knowledge and current policies and procedures.Demonstrated coding knowledge and proficiency is required through extensive evaluation prior to hire and score within 92%-95% accuracy.
