Friday 3:00 AM ? 11:30 AM, variable begin time based on workloadRequired Minimum Education:? Associate's Degree with at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.? Or Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histo technician program? Bachelor's Degree PreferredRequired Minimum Experience:? 2 years? experience in histologyRequired License/Certification:? HT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP) required within 90 days from hireRequired Skills:? Strong, positive interpersonal skills? Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly? Problem-solving ability, time management skills, and possesses organizational skills to function successfullyJob Responsibilities:Test Procedures:? Embedding o Orientation of surgical specimen in paraffin o Time utilization? Microtomy o Cut thin, wrinkle free sections o Follows protocol for each specimen type and selects appropriate representative sample o Time utilization? Preparation of Slides and Stains o Follows established protocols for staining o Evaluate stains o Operation of automated stainer o Use manual staining technique o Performs special stains o Prepares reagents o Operations of automated coverslipper o Hand coverslipping o Routine filing of slides and blocks? Cytology Specimens o Follows established protocols for processing o Assists with fine needle aspiration and special procedures o Maintains specific quality control? Reference Lab o Follows established protocols for esoteric tests o Follows established protocols for extra-departmental consults Professional Accountability:? Participates in orientation and training of students, volunteers, new employees and observers.? Maintains commitment to profession by attending continuing education sessions. (Ex. Web seminars, ASCP seminars, Tarleton and Lab sponsored seminars by industry.)? Completes mandatory hospital/laboratory education and departmental competencies within required time frame.? Mandatory health requirements are completed with required time frame.? Completes assigned work within required time and offers assistance to other coworkers.? Uses laboratory equipment (computer, instruments, etc) for hospital use only.? Budgets and schedules PTO for effective staffing levels.? Time and attendance is satisfactory.? Employee exhibits a professional appearance.? Seeks assistance/supervision/consultation as needed and reports to supervisor any problems and/or solution regarding delivery of patient care.? Interacts professionally and pleasantly with all encountered and promotes customer satisfaction.Specimen Integrity:? Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing.? Follows established protocols for handling unsatisfactory specimens.? Accessions surgical and cytology specimens.Laboratory Operations:? Facilitates workflow process.? Checks outstanding tests list in a timely manner.? Troubleshoots and follows through on outstanding tests which appear to have not been collected/received when expected.? Knows and uses computer downtime procedures as needed when computer is not available.? Gives proper notification when supplies need to be ordered.? Utilizes time between testing to accomplish other needed tasks. (evaluation of kits, preparing controls, supply management, housekeeping duties, etc).? Performs tasks in a manner that enhances the quality of care.? Helps other hospital and laboratory coworkers to provide timely patient care.?
