Job Overview: Under the direction of the Electrical Distribution Foreman, employee performs work related to assisting lineman and other line crew personnel in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power lines. Aides lineman and other crew personnel with tasks as required in the repair, maintenance, and construction of overhead and underground power lines. These duties may include, but are not limited to, retrieving supplies, assisting in preparation of work to be performed, digging holes, pulling cables, etc. in an accurate and safe manner. Stocks trucks with electrical supplies, parts and equipment and supplies materials to lineman as needed; services trucks with gas and oil as needed. Operates equipment such as boring machines, bucket truck, pole setting truck, and ditching machine. Operates power hand tools such as chain saw and pruner to trim tree limbs near power lines in a safe manner; uses various types of hand tools to cut, splice, and string wire and/or cable. Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications: Above knowledge and skill may be gained by six months responsible experience in the methods, procedures, and practices working with electricity and/or six (6) months experience in the operation of equipment utilized in the electric system OR by any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill. Must have a valid Texas CDL Driver s License or the ability to obtain license within six (3) months of the six (6) month initiation period of employment and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set forth by the City. Some knowledge of the methods and techniques used in operation, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electric utility system. Skill and knowledge in the operation of various types of tools, equipment, and materials used in the operation, repair, installation and maintenance of the City electric system. Ability to operate various types of hand tools and power tools such as chain saw and pruner. Ability to read and interpret reports, records, blueprints, maps, gauges, dials, meters, technical handbooks, and organizational policies and procedures. Ability to perform basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with co-workers, contractors, and other City departments. Ability to write records and reports, ability to complete forms such as work orders. Ability to perform pole rescue in emergency situations. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time in the maintenance, repair, and installation of electric systems. Ability to climb as high as 60 feet when making repairs or installation of utility poles, electric lines; ability to climb stairs, ladders, and into equipment. Ability to crawl, reach, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and twist in the repair, installation, and maintenance of electric lines and equipment; ability to reach overhead to obtain items, materials, equipment from shelves and cabinets. Ability to throw rope weighing up to 20 lbs. Ability to carry, balance objects, push, pull, and lift materials and equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Ability to operate foot controls on equipment and vehicles. Ability to speak clearly in face-to-face situations, by telephone, and two-way radio in emergency and non-emergency situations. Ability to hear commands or orders in emergency and non-emergency situations. Fine dexterity with fingers and hands required to handle items and to operate tools, vehicles, equipment, and working with electricity. Conditions of Employment; must live within 10-miles of the Parker County Courthouse, relocation within the probationary period, any future relocation within 10-miles of Courthouse, notify City Electric Department prior to relocation, required on-call (stand-by) rotation, proper tools acquired within the first three months.
